Obtaining essential patient information used to be a challenge at St Cuthbert’s Care. They relied on a manual, time-consuming, and inefficient process that could sometimes take multiple phone calls and up to a full day to get sorted.

Christine Wright, IT Support Lead of St Cuthbert’s Care, shares how implementing GP Connect through Cura has transformed their access to GP records, improved medication management, and levelled up their overall care delivery.
Before enabling GP Connect on Cura, what was your process for accessing GP records?
“Before Cura, the only way we could access the GP record was to obtain the information directly from the GP surgery. We had to call up and request the information, which sometimes took several telephone calls and even then, was often delayed. We also tried setting up the NHS app for residents/service users, but that didn’t work for us. So, it was basically a printed copy from the GP that we stored in paper files.”
How quickly can your team now access the information they need compared to before?
“Previously, the manual process could take up to a day to sort out. Since going into Cura, the information is readily available instantly…right at our fingertips.”
Can you share a specific example where having instant access to GP records led to faster or better decision-making for a service user?
“Absolutely. With GP Connect, medication changes can be recorded quickly, which helps when ordering repeat medication. After a GP visit, having up-to-date information immediately means staff don’t have to take notes and then enter them later when they return to the office. This real-time access resulted to a faster and more accurate decision-making process.”
